Towing Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long does it take to get a vehicle towed?
A: A standard wait time for someone who broke down in the vehicle is about 20–30 minutes.
Q: What is the best type of roadside assistance?
A: Check with your auto insurance company. Most reputable insurance carriers have a good roadside program. You will get much quicker service if you pay out of pocket and get reimbursed by your insurance company instead of calling an 800 number for service.
Q: What services do towing companies offer?
A: All towing companies offer light duty towing, tire changes, battery jump starts, and car door unlocking services. Some offer medium-duty towing and heavy-duty towing.
Q: Do AWD or 4WD vehicles need to be towed on a flatbed?
A: No, this is a common misconception. All vehicles can be towed with a flatbed or a wrecker with Dollie equipment. In some cases, it is better to use a wrecker and dollies instead of a flatbed. Any reputable towing company can do this correctly. Make sure to call an experienced towing company.
Q: Why do law enforcement tows typically cost more than standard towing needs?
A: Tow trucks that work for law enforcement have to agree to be able to respond in 15 to 20 minutes, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; they have to carry more equipment; it takes extra time and supplies to clean the truck after hauling accident vehicles; and it is much more dangerous to work in the roadway with traffic going by.
